How to Improve your Work Efficiency in 2 Easy Steps

3 09 2010

There is a saying that goes that a business owner should be working on his business and not in his business. This basically means if your goal is grow your business you will not be able to do that if you are stuck in the daily grind performing menial and repetitive tasks that your business requires. For example: Payroll, figuring out marketing strategies, answering your business phone, hiring, accounting and bill pay, etc.

More Time

You most likely started a business or want to start a business because you have an idea or a talent that generates money. Your goal as a business owner should be figuring out how much money you can produce per hour if you were only doing your money generating task. For example, it takes me an hour to find a new Realtor, sell him on our business and get an appointment set with our investment team for him to give us at least 1 deal that we specially developed for Realtors. This in return tells me I can generate about $15,000 per hour for my business if that is all I did.

Step # 1
So the first step in improving your efficiency is going to be to complete 5 days of work in your business while carrying a notepad with you and writing down(you have to literally write down on the pad, no saving thoughts in your mind!!) everything you had to do that work week that did not involve you doing that money generating activity.

Step # 2
After you have written down all things that ate up your time, take some time to figure out if you can outsource them and how to outsource them. For example, if I had two hours left in my day to accomplish work, and I made $50 commission per hour when I was selling widgets, but I still had to update our company blog. It would make sense for me to outsource the updating of the blog for the $3-$5 for that hour it costs me. So instead of me making $50 for one hour of sales and spending one hour to update a blog, I would outsource that and make $95 in those two hours while paying someone to do my other task for $5.

Finding low cost outsourcing is easy and simple to manage in today’s information age. If you are interesting in getting some FREE HELP to do just that in your business or job, leave a comment below and I will get back to you shortly.
